New Star Wars Hotel News, Rumors, Updates

It’s Official!

  • The Star Wars Hotel will begin taking guests in 2021.
  • Reservations will open up later in 2020.

Disney has announced they will be opening a Star Wars-themed hotel in Walt Disney World in Orlando.

It will be called Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

It is scheduled to open in 2021.

What We Know Now About Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

What is Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser?

Disney is working on a new Star Wars-themed luxury resort. What makes this resort unique from all of the others is that guests will be completely immersed in the story, interacting with the characters and really stepping into the Star Wars universe.

Guests become passengers aboard the Halcyon, a starship in the Star Wars universe, and become a part of the story, engaging and interacting with characters in a story that takes place over the duration of their two-night, three day stay.

What does Star Wars “immersion” mean?

Here’s what we know currently:

  • Guests will check in for a 2-night, 3 day stay at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser where the story will unfold over those three days.
  • Guests will all board together and disembark together, like a cruise ship experience.
  • Guests will “leave earth” and board a starship to voyage the galaxy.
  • During the voyage, guests will encounter characters, stories and adventures that unfold all around them.
  • Each guest will be an active citizen of the Star Wars realm and live in a way that reflects that universe. This includes dressing in Star Wars themed attire.
  • Every window will have a view of space.

Where will it be located?

It will be part of Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts in Orlando, Florida. It will be located on the south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, east of World Drive.

Will it be like other Disney hotels?

Disney is no stranger to creating themed resort experiences, such as their Aulani Hotel in Hawaii. However, this project is to be completely immersive, meaning guests are considered characters in a plot and are invited to act those roles during their time at the hotel.

It will also be different because there is no flexibility in how long guests can remain in the resort. It is a set two-night, three-day stay because that is how long it takes for the interactive story to play out.

When will Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser be completed?

No official opening date or timeline has been provided by Disney. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the new section of Hollywood Studios park will open in the fall of 2019.

The Star Wars hotel opening date will not be at exact same time but will be shortly thereafter, in the year 2021. The year has been officially announced, but not an exact date.

If you can’t wait until Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser opens up, the Star Wars Day at Sea is an immersive intergalactic experience aboard a ship.

What happens during a stay on the Star Wars hotel?

You will check in at a “terminal” at Disney World, where you will be transported with all other guests to the intergalactic starcruiser called the Halcyon.

Travel to the Halcyon will take place via a Launch Pod, where you’ll watch the real world disappear as you make the jump to hyperspace en route to the ship.

Each “launch pod” will be a heavily modified bus, where you’ll never see the driver.

You’ll enter the Halcyon via airlock and step into the main deck atrium. I expect this experience to feel similar to entering a Disney Cruise ship for the first time.

The Halycon is expected to be a luxury starship and for the price, I would expect absolutely incredible service.

You’ll check into your well-appointed cabin and enjoy “out of this world” dining.

All the while, you become part of a story that takes place over the full duration of your stay.

Interact with Star Wars Characters
It’s too early to say exactly how these interactions will go but we know you will run into a variety of famous Star Wars characters such as Rey and Chewbacca.

The Halcyon will “make a stop” at Black Spire Outpost on Batuu (aka Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios).

Additionally, you’ll be trained in the ways of the Force, learning how to wield a lightsaber successfully. And you can expect to visit the Bridge of the ship where you’ll learn how to navigate and/or defend the Halcyon in case of an attack.

Discover Secrets
You will be able to poke around the Halcyon and during the process you might discover “hidden spaces deep in the mechanics of the ship”. I’m not sure yet what purpose these will have, but color me intrigued!

Choose Your Own Adventure
The choices you make during your stay will dictate additional events that transpire as your personal adventure goes along.

How will you get to Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser?

Official permits clearly outline a designated area for shuttle parking. It is speculation at this point but these shuttles could be themed as transports in the Star Wars universe, keeping guests fully engulfed in the theme and storytelling experience.

There doesn’t seem to be any obvious self-parking, so we’re expecting valet parking to be the norm.

How many rooms will Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser have?

Initial blueprints show the first floor of the hotel having 34 “cabins”, with two of these being labeled as “First Class” and seem to be twice the size of the standard room.

We don’t know yet how tall the hotel will be, but there is speculation that it will only be two stories. If that is the case, that provide approximately 68 hotel rooms.

This is very very small compared to other Disney resorts that feature 2000 rooms or more.

If this is the case, reservations are going to be hard to come by and the price will likely be “out of this world.”

What will Disney Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Cost?

Disney Parks and Resorts has not yet released any information about what the Disney Star Wars Resort cost will be, but there have been rumors.

As this is expected to be more than just a lodging experience, we can expect Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser cost to be at least as high as their maximum resort price.

Walt Disney World News Today is spreading the rumor that the three day, two night stay at the Galactic Starcruiser will cost $3,300 for a single person, and $7,200 for a cabin for five people.

Guests are not just paying for accommodations but rather an immersive entertainment experience. Get your Disney Visa card ready, because if the rumors are true, the prices are going to be out of this world.

We will continue to provide updates on the Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge hotel prices here as information becomes available.

How will I be able to get a Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Booking?

No info has been released yet on how Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser reservations will be handled.

It is expected that booking a hotel stay will be very competitive prior to the hotel’s grand opening.

To make a Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser reservation, you almost certainly be able to do it online through Disney Parks & Resorts page. Will they allow Star Wars hotel to be booked by travel agents? That is yet unknown, but we are expecting they will, as many Disney guests will have a lot of questions about what is involved in the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience.

How will holograms work at the Star Wars Hotel?

Disney has filed for patent called “Floating Image Display System.”

This patent seems to be the basis for a hologram that hovers in the air.

The ramifications of this new technology are huge for theme parks and an immersive hotel experience, like the Star Wars hotel is expected to become.

Visitors could interact with “floating” virtual characters during their voyage through the Star Wars Galaxy.

Will there be special dinner show restaurant at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser?

Concept art in the original plans for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, gave indication there would be a special dining experience at the Star Wars Land.

Those plans were canceled, but it is now rumored there will be an immersive dinner show at the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser resort.

This makes sense, as dinner shows aboard Disney Cruise are a huge part of the entertainment.

For those unfamiliar, the restaurants are decorated in a theme and elements of the room actually interact with the guests (ala Animator’s Palate). Along with the dining, there is character-based entertainment.

In the immersive experience at the new hotel, such a restaurant is a logical expectation.

What language will they speak at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser?

With the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, we get a little glimpse into the language that is likely to be spoken at the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

The Disneyland (and soon to arrive at Hollywood Studios) attraction is set on the planet of Batuu.

The Batuuans speak a language similar to English with a few key phrases. See the full breakdown of the new Star Wars land language.

By adopting a new Star Wars language, the immersive experience takes deeper hold at the parks.

We fully expect this to continue — and probably expand — at Galactic Starcruiser.

What Will a Star Wars Hotel Room Look Like?

Disney has only released Star Wars hotel concept art to give us an idea of what a Star Wars hotel room might look like.

What is the official Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser location?

The Star Wars Hotel address has not yet been announced.

We know that Galactic Journeys is being build adjacent to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as part of the Walt Disney World resort.

It’s assumed there will be easy movement between this Star Wars themed resort and Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios.
